Description: Now you can get the classic sound of the Telefunken ELAM 251 at a fraction of the cost.

Because the L251FET boasts the same capsule as the L251, it has the same breathy, airy, sparkly characteristics as the tube model. The L251FET has been lauded as a spectacular vocal mic as well as being a superior choice for instruments of all kind, room miking, and drum overhead.

There is wide discussion about the sonic differences between solid state microphones such as the L251FET and their tube counterparts i.e., the L251. Many engineers describe the L251FET as more "focused" or "clinical" sounding while attributing a "softer," "warmer" sound to the L251. Needless to say, there are differences in sound between the two electronics. In some instances, the truer sound of the L251FET is preferred; in other situations, the warmth and roundness of the tube model is chosen. Since personal tastes vary widely, we suggest that you try both. Simply order an L251 AND a Lawson FET electronics. With the Quick Change™ system, simply remove the head from the L251 and put it on your FET electronics. Listen to both. Let your ears decide which is best for you.

There are several advantages to Lawson FET mics:
* Lawson FET mics are convenient, small, and lightweight. No outboard power supply is needed;
* FET models operate on 48V phantom. There is only one cable required to connect your L251FET to your mic pre or console;
* The L251FET is very affordable.

Although the L251FET solid state electronics are capable of only a cardioid response, the L251FET's Quick Change™ capsule, when used with any Lawson multi-pattern electronics is capable of full multi-pattern functionality making it a perfect companion to the L47MP MKII. Remove the Quick Change™ capsule from the L251FET, put it on an L47MP MKII tube electronics, and voila! You have an L251 tube mic in all its glory. Put the L47 capsule on the FET electronics and record with the L47FET.

The L251FET uses all discrete components including one percent low noise metal film resistors. No integrated circuits or surface mount parts are used.

The L251FET is housed in a lightweight one-piece machined aluminum body finished in durable satin chrome. The head is machined brass and plated with luscious bright nickel. The L251FET's rugged design and lighter weight allow longer boom arm extensions.
